Sneak peek into our design process 🤫

Happy May! Summer is almost here guys. Hope you are all doing well. It's back to Terian this month for the newsletter (sorry about that..) 

 

Have you ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes to get from the initial client consultation, to the beautifully styled pictures you see on our website and socials? Well.. I thought I would take you through the journey of working with us on a full design, design management and installation service. I'll try and keep this brief, because we are looking at months and months of work condensed into a wee email here... But just imagine, in addition to this wee snap shot, behind the scenes there was also top quality banter from me and a whole load of other work. OK, the scene has been set....



PHASE 1: INFORMATION GATHERING

(THE DESIGN BRIEF)


Clients are sent a detailed questionnaire to complete prior to our consultation. This helps to draw out the key information we need that will form the brief. We then have a consultation (this can be by video call or in person at the property) where we go into detail about how you want the space to FEEL and function for you. We also look at the problems of the space as it is our job to come up with solutions to tackle these dilemmas. 

 

All this information gathered helps to form the brief which is then sent to the client to sign off before the design phase can begin. 


BEFORE:


The brief for this space was to create a warm cosy, colourful, bright, together, elegant and light space. 


PHASE 2: DESIGN


Depending on the project, the initial design phase is around 6 weeks. This is where we work behind the scenes to put together an initial design concept to present to you. At this phase we are having a first look at samples, textures, colours, patterns. The purpose of this phase is to show what could be achieved to meet the brief and solve the problems. It is a starting point which then will be developed further after the presentation. 

 

Here are some visuals and the initial mood board that made part of (a very small part of) the design concept presentation. (There is so much more detail involved in our presentations).







Once the design is signed off, we move to "is it viable", where we obtain all the quotes with our trades team for the work to check the design is actually achievable within the budget set by the client. If tweaks are needed to bring it into budget, this is where that happens before final sign off. 


PHASE 3: PROCUREMENT


Once all the work has been signed off, we carry out all sourcing and buying for you of all the products needed to bring the design to life. We have so much experience in terms of sourcing and buying for projects, so we will keep you right here. We initially show 3 options per item, so you have choice but it's not overwhelming. We take care of the ordering, deliveries, storage and any returns that need to be made. 



PHASE 4: DESIGN MANAGEMENT


Work starts on site, it may be building, ripping out, wiring, painting, plastering or basically whatever work/trade is required to take the design from our concept into life! Our project coordinator (Kirsten) manages the timeline for this and will check in on a daily basis to see how work is progressing and keep the client up to date via weekly emails.


FINAL PHASE: INSTALL!




This is where the real magic happens! Months and months of work will finally come to life as we unpack, hang up, install and style your space ready for hand over. It will be like walking into a magazine, but it's your home.... and yours to keep, and tailored to you... and way more comfortable looking.. so yeah.. maybe not like a magazine.. but stunning!
